Sumerian Advertisement Project

Objective: To demonstrate an understanding of the achievements of Sumer by creating an mini-poster advertisement for one of Sumer’s inventions or innovations or a store or agency which sells them.

Your Project: Create an mini-poster advertisement about one of the inventions or innovations of the ancient Sumarians.

The project must contain the following:

1. A picture, drawing or clip art of the invention, innovation or its use.
2. A description of the item, its use, and why it is needed.
3. Advertising language which makes the reader want to buy the item or service.
4. The name of your product or store written both in English and in Cuneiform.
5. Color on the poster. No pencil.
6. Your name date and period.

Procedure

1. Consult your notes or other resources for information.
2. Determine the design of your mini-poster. Are you advertising the item or a store selling the item? What words will you use to get the reader to buy your product or service?
3. Consult Cuneiform alphabet handout or check Social Studies Links in mrgonzalez.com to translate the name of your product or store.
4. Add a picture or drawing of the item or its use.
5. Place all required information onto the poster.
6. Proofread.
7.Place your full name, date, and period on the back of the poster.

Your final project should be neat, creative, and pleasing to the eye. The writing should be accurate and free of errors. Do not use pencil!

Remember, you are actually teaching the reader about one of the achievements and its importance. Your information about the product or service should be accurate.

Extra information for your use--Currency is in Minas and Shekels. Minas and Shekels are units of weight. One Mina is equal to 50 Shekels. One Mina is roughly 1.25 pounds. (One mina of grain, two shekels of gold, etc.)
