Primitive Man Rock Project

Objective: To demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of the of the art of Primitive man by creating a rock which reflects the important aspects of one’s life.

Your Project: Imagine you are a prehistoric human. Using symbols and signs, you will create an art project which shows various aspects of your prehistoric life.

The project must contain the following:

1. 5 symbols of your prehistoric life.
2. A slogan, motto or short saying which reflects your prehistoric philosophy.
3. Your name, date, period on the back.
4. A 1/2 to 1 page description of your projects explaining your
signs/symbols and your motto.

Procedure

1. Create five symbols of ideas, events, or objects which represent your prehistoric life.
2. Determine a slogan, short saying or motto which reflects your prehistoric philosophy.
3. Create a rough draft placing and arranging your signs/symbols and
your motto in English on a blank page.
4. When you are satisfied with your symbol and motto placement, copy your project to
the final paper or cover stock using marker, crayons or colored pencil.
5. Cut your final paper around the edges to simulate a “rock” appearance.
6. Place your name, date, period, on the back.
7. Write the 1/2 to 1 page description of your signs/symbols typed or in black
or blue ink and staple it to the back of the rock. Include your name, date, and period.

Your final project should be neat, free of errors and pleasing to the eye. The writing description should be in black or blue ink. Do not use regular pencil on either the rock or the description.
