Hindu Mandala Project
Objective: To demonstrate an understanding of the major beliefs of Hinduism by designing a Mandala and writing an explanation of its symbols.
The Mandala. A mandala is a circle decorated with designs or symbols. In this projects mandala the circle will contain symbols of the five main beliefs of Hinduism.
The five main beliefs are:
1. Brahman-The one universal God or spirit
2. Multiple gods-There are many Gods and Goddesses-all part of the universal spirit
3. Dharma-A persons duty or responsibility to ones life. The rules one must follow.
4. Karma-Good or bad actions and how they influence ones future life.
5. Samsara (Reincarnation)- The cycle of birth, death and rebirth.
Creating the Mandala:
1. Consult your notes so that you are clear as to the beliefs of the Hindu religion.
2. Create an illustration which shows each belief. Use symbols to illustrate the concept.
3. Make a rough draft of the Mandala. The Mandala will have five sections. Each section of the circle will contain one of the beliefs. (A templet may be provided)
4. Make a final copy of the Mandala (a template may be provided). Make the
illustrations and surrounding circle colorful and neat.
5. Write five paragraphs explaining the five parts of the circle.
Each paragraph should contain the following information:
1. Explain the Hindu belief.
2. Describe your symbols'/representation.
3. Explain how your symbols'/representations show the Hindu belief.
6. Make a final copy of the writing. The writing
must be typed or in black or blue ink and free of errors.
7. Staple the finished Mandala to the front of the written explanation.
8. Make sure your have your name, date and period on the Mandala and on the writing.
