Island Poster Report
Objective: To demonstrate an understanding of the Five Themes of Geography by applying the 5 geography themes to an original created island.
Your Poster Report: Your Poster Report must be neat, informative and show evidence of understanding the subject. All writing on the poster must be in ink, marker, typewritten or word-processed. NO PENCIL. It must be free of errors. The final poster must be pleasing to the eye.
Construction paper will be provided by the teacher.
Instructions: There are two parts to this project. There will be a grade given to each part.
1. An Island Poster. As a group, create an original Island. Decide on a name, and location. Decide on how the 5 themes of geography apply to this island. There can be many types of islands, realistic or fantastic. Everyone should have input. This should be an arial view of your island which shows the shape, and physical features. The poster should show the five themes of geography. The poster must be neat, pleasing to the eye, and any writing will be without errors. The island coordinates must be displayed on the poster. Teamwork will be considered. This includes cooperation, sharing, attitude, participation and behavior.
2. The Poster Island Report. (Black or Blue Ink or typed)
Each person in the group must contribute to the report. The report should have five
parts. Each person should write at least one of the following sections sections:
A. Two paragraphs explaining the Location . This should explain what Location is, and
the absolute and relative location of the island.
B. Two paragraphs which tell about Place. This should explain what Place is, and the
physical and man-made features of the island.
C. Two paragraphs explaining the Human/Environment Interaction of the island. Explain
what Human/Environment Interaction is, and how humans have changed the
land and how the land has changed humans.
D. Two paragraphs which explain about Movement. Explain what Movement is, and the
types of transportation and communication systems the island has. How do
people, goods and ideas get to and from the island.
E. Two paragraphs which explain Region. Explain what Region is, and how this new
island similar to another place, real or imagined? Discuss the climate, location,
and land features that are similar to another place.
Each section must contain the writers first and last name, and period. It must be in ink or word-processed. Include a cover page with the name of the island on it. Staple the finished report to the Poster.
The names of everyone who worked on the poster and the period must be displayed on the front and back of the poster.
All group members will be able to explain the 5 themes of the island. All group members must participate and be able to explain how they created their part of the project.
The Final Poster Project will be neat, attractive to the eye, free of any errors, and of high quality. Extra and creative touches are encouraged and appreciated. This project may be displayed to parents.
