Medieval Coat of Arms which shows elements of the life of a knight or noble.
Purpose-To understand how and why a Coat of Arms was created and to demonstrate understanding of life in the Middle Ages..
Requirements: You must create one Coat of Arms and one explanation page.
Your Coat of Arms:
-must be colorful and neat.
-must contain 4 symbols that represent who your person is.
-must have your last name neatly over the Coat of Arms.
-must have a motto under the C of A that represents your person's philosophy.
-must have your name, date, and period.
You Coat of Arms Explanation must:
-have at least one paragraph that explains your symbols and your reasons.
-have at least one paragraph explaining your motto and why you chose it.
-be in black or blue ink or typed.
-be neat and use correct spelling, grammar and punctuation.
-have your name, date, and period in the upper right hand corner.
Your explanation must be stapled to the back of the Coat of Arms.
Procedure:
1. Get a Coat of Arms template from your teacher or make your own.
2. Choose four colors to use. Decide or learn what they symbolize. (Courage, hope, patience, academics, love, friendship, perseverance, strength, etc.)
3. Divide you Coat of Arms into four areas. Be creative. Use thick lines or bars to separate your areas.
4. Decide on what symbols you will use to represent your person. (family, hobbies, hopes, favorite items, traits, animals, places, etc.)
5. Decide on a motto that represents your person's philosophy. (It must be short and may be only a few words long.
6. Create a simple rough draft of your project., then complete the final project.
7. Write a rough draft of the explanation, then complete the final copy.
--One paragraph about your colors, what they represent and why you chose them.
--One paragraph about your symbols, what they represent and why you chose them.
--One paragraph about your motto, and why you chose it.
8. Make sure your name, date and period are on both parts of the project.
