Cuneiform Tablet Project


Objective:
To demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of ancient pictographs and cuneifom by creating a tablet which reflects the important aspects of one’s life.

Your Project: Using pictorgraphs and cuneiform, you will create an art project which shows various aspects of your life. You will include a personal motto and your monogram (initials) in cuneiform.

The project must contain the following:

1. 5 pictographs which show aspects of your life.
2. A slogan, motto or short saying which reflects your philosophy,
written in cuneiform.
3. Your three initials written in Cuneiform. (Monogram)
4. Your name, date, period and motto translation on the back of the tablet.
5. A 1/2 to 1 page description of your project explaining your
signs/symbols and your motto.
Explain what they mean and why the motto is important to you.

Procedure

1. Create five original pictographs of ideas, events, or objects which represent your life.
2. Determine a slogan, short saying or motto which reflects your philosophy.
3. Write your motto and your monogram using cuneiform letters.
4. Create a rough draft placing and arranging your pictographs and the cuneiform
of your motto on a blank page.
5. When you are satisfied with your pictograph placement, copy your project to
the final card stock paper.
You may use color marker, color pencil or crayon. NO REGULAR PENCIL!
6. Cut your final paper around the edges to simulate a clay tablet appearance.
7. Place your name, date, period, and motto translation on the back.
8. Write the 1/2 to 1 page description of your signs/symbols typed or in black
or blue ink and staple it to the back of the tablet.(REMEMBER, NO PENCIL!)

Your final project should be neat, free of errors and pleasing to the eye. The writing description should be in black or blue ink. Do not use pencil.
